Leslie Walter Simmons, Jr. “Walt”, 83, of Centerbrook, formerly of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 57 years of Jacqueline (Perreault) Simmons, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford on September 14, 1934, Walt was the son of the late Leslie Walter Simmons, Sr. and Anne Marie (O’Keefe) Simmons. Walt served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He met Jackie at Underwood Typewriter and knew she was the love of his life. They married in 1960 and began their life journey together. Walt worked for over thirty years for the Drake’s Cakes Company and was part of the Teamsters Local 559. Walt was a hardworking, generous loyal friend to all who knew him. Walt enjoyed bowling and being at the beach, he loved a good laugh and could be quite the joker. A kind man, he was always willing to help others, from cleaning cars to caring for his father. However, his true love was time spent with his children and grandchildren. Walt never missed an opportunity to be with them. In addition to his wife Jackie, Walt leaves his children: Cheryl Warriner and her husband Bob of Vernon, David Simmons and his wife Carole of Wethersfield, Donald Simmons of Rocky Hill, Lisa Frese and her husband John of Essex, Wayne Simmons and his wife Nancy of Hebron and Jeff Simmons and his wife Claudia of Tolland. He also leaves his adored grandchildren, Melissa Manner, Dan Warriner, David Simmons, Matty Simmons, Bryanna Noel, Michael Simmons, Johnny Frese, Ally Frese, Katie Frese, Emily Frese, Lily Frese, Shannon Simmons, Tyler Simmons, Tori Brown and Jeffrey Simmons, along with six cherished great-grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
