Born on July 23, 1946, to Katherine (McIntyre) and Howard Thompson. Loretta was the third child and the second of fraternal twins, welcomed alongside her beloved sister, Lemoine. Phil Thompson her older brother was always watching over his two younger sisters as they all enjoyed life in New Britain together.
A proud graduate of New Britain High School, class of 1964, Retta lived her life the best she could with what she had. Life was not always easy, and the choices available to her were not always fair or abundant. But she made the most of it, facing challenges head-on and with fierce independence – and that’s how we all came to know that unique blend of spirit and spunk. And that larger than life spirit — was shown in many ways…. such that she never held back any opinion and had a way of telling it like it is.
Retta will be remembered for many things—her love of Neil Diamond, whose music brought her joy and comfort throughout the years; her warm, home-cooked meals that she lovingly shared with family and friends. She also truly cherished the countless weekends, holidays, and family gatherings at her brother Phil’s house in Farmington, where her presence was always felt.
She so especially enjoyed the holidays. She had her own special dishes she prepared every year, and she took great pride in decorating her home to make the season feel just right.
Loretta may not have fit into every mold, but she was always True to herself—and in the end, that is a life worth honoring.
She was a loving mother to her son, Michael (Barbara) and her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren, Justin and Ashley - creating treasured memories; like trips to Vermont and visits to Yankee Candle (one of her favorite places!).
Loretta retired seven years ago from FK Bearing Manufacturing in Southington, Connecticut, where she was a dedicated employee for many years. In the final eight months of her life, she shared precious time with her twin sister, Lemoine, in South Carolina, strengthening their lifelong bond.
The last few years were especially difficult for her, losing the love of her life, David, right in front of her eyes – then when dementia started slowly creeping in and her being so isolated – it became a bit worse. So instead - we will hold onto Loretta’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends – of who she used to be, not who she had become - her legacy of love, laughter, and those cherished moments.
She leaves behind her son, Michael, his wife, Barbara (Dudzinski), and their children, Justin and Ashley; her twin-sister, Lemoine Forman; and her brother Phil, and wife, Patricia (Pat) Thompson and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Retta was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Michael Forman.
A time of visitation and reflection will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.(where she will rest next to David)
