

Lucia (Formica) Franzoni, 76, of Avon, formerly of Hartford, beloved wife for 44 years of Carlo Franzoni, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday (January 17, 2014). It should be known that her last spoken words were “God is beautiful”. Born on August 20, 1938 in Canicattini Bagni, province of Siracusa, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Giuseppina (Artale) Formica. Educated in Sicily, she was a teacher in her home town before immigrating to America in 1967, where she joined her parents. Prior to her retirement she was employed from 1968-1981 by Hartford Home Savings on Franklin Avenue in Hartford. In 1970 Lucia married Carlo and had three children. The tragic death of her infant son Carlo Joseph reinforced her dedication to her family and children everywhere. In her retirement years she was devoted to her husband and her children’s endeavors. She was a proud and active member of the Italian American community serving in various capacities in civic and social organizations. She was a tireless member and former President of the Daughters of Canicattini Bagni and a proud, active member of the Sons of Italy. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Lucia will be dearly missed by her husband Carlo; two devoted daughters, Dr. Marina Lori Franzoni of Avon with whom she made her home and Margaret Lucia Aparo and her husband Davide of Wethersfield and her three adored grandchildren, Carlino Franzoni-Acosta, Maria Concetta Aparo and Paolo Carlo Aparo. She is also survived by her loving sister, Nella Cianci of Rocky Hill as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and beloved friends. She was predeceased by her beloved infant son, Carlo Joseph Franzoni. The funeral is Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Luke’s Church, 66 Bolton St., Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
