Lucia (Garofalo) Scotti, 89, of West Hartford and formerly Hartford, beloved wife for 46 years of the late Isidoro A. Scotti, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Born in Priolo, Siracusa, Sicily on January 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Natalina (Marotta) Garofalo. Lucia was a talented seamstress who worked at Greca Brothers upon her arrival in the United States in 1973. She later worked for many years at Sage Allen with other Italian seamstresses who became her friends.
A loving mother and grandmother, Lucia will be forever missed by her two devoted daughters, Maria A. Scotti-Laifer and husband Larry of Goshen and Natalie Speranza and husband John of West Hartford and five grandchildren, Alyssa and her husband Tommy, Lauren, Alex, Bianca and A.J., who have very fond memories of their grandmother. Special Call Out to; spicy bread, crushed ice with sugar, flavor ice, spoonfuls of Nutella, fried cutlets and, most of all, “special chicken.” She was also adored by the Speranza grandchildren, having spent time with Nonna Lucia and Nonna Nietta at many family gatherings. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by several siblings Santo, Lena, Salvatore and leaves behind her brother Alfonso, twin sister Angela and sister Maria. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who she adored and cherished. Special thanks to Nunu Acevedo for taking extraordinary care of her, allowing us to know she was always in good hands as well as the many Masonicare nurses and staff that cared for her, in particular her primary care nurse Denise.
A calling hour will be Friday, February 10 from 9-10:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Entombment will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Donations in Lucia’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
