

Margaret H. “Peg” Beakey, 87, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Beakey, MD, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Peg was born in Torrington on September 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Albert and Veronica Halasz. Raised in West Hartford, she was a graduate of Hall High School, where she captained the girls’ basketball team, the Amazons. After graduating from Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow, MA, she worked as secretary to the Director of Personnel at Hartford Electric Light Co. She went on to work for Kelly Real Estate and realizing her passion, she obtained her broker’s license and opened Curtin Realty in 1961, where she had a very successful career in the 60s and 70s. She and Jack enjoyed many happy years together traveling the world. Peg was active in several local organizations: she was former President of Corpus Christi Women’s Club, former President of Auxiliary to the Hartford County Medical Association, life member of both the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and the Connecticut Opera Guild, member and past Chairlady of the Ladies Division of Golf at Wethersfield Country Club and a member of the Incarnation Women’s Club. Peg was a huge UCONN men’s and women’s basketball fan. In 1990, she took up bridge and became a very good duplicate player. She was also a fabulous cook and loved to read. Peg leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Patti Curtin; son, Greg Curtin and wife Ruth Utting; beloved grandchildren, Sara Mulcahy and husband Tim and Jamey Curtin and wife Kailin. She was “Super Nana” to her adored great-grandchildren, Meghan and Brendan Mulcahy and Finian, Scarlett and Cormac Curtin. Peg also leaves her niece, Roberta Weigert and many good friends, especially Judy Friend and Connie Watson. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Weigert and her nephew, Andrew Weigert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (September 27) at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
