

Maria Di Censo, 81, of Newington and formerly Hartford passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Born on September 22, 1942 in Sulmona, province of L’Aquila, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Quirino and Bambina Di Censo. Maria came to the U.S. in April, 1973 as a certified seamstress, where she worked at dress factories on Franklin Ave., Hartford for many years and became a high rated seamstress, also making dresses for friends and family. She then worked as a food and nutrition aide at Hartford Hospital until she retired. Maria was known for her cooking at every family function, making her homemade pasta, sauce, meatballs and pizzelles. Above all, her greatest passion in life was her family.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be forever missed by her four children, Anna Sinatro and husband James of Avon, Quirino Di Censo of Wethersfield, Giovanni Di Censo and wife Antonella of Wethersfield and Bambina Kiniry and husband Steven of Newington; eight grandchildren who brought her so much joy, Sebastiano Castro and wife Lauren, Anna Maria Castro and boyfriend Brian, Alecia Di Censo, Brianna Di Censo, Giovanni Di Censo, Giulia Di Censo, Steven Kiniry and Isabella Kiniry and one adored great-granddaughter, Avery Maria Castro. She is also survived by her sister, Rosa De Angelis and husband Fernando of Sulmona, Italy; one aunt, Giulia Di Censo of Rhode Island and two sisters-in-law, Luisa and Maria Di Censo of Sulmona, Italy, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 7 from 8:30 - 10:15 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 53 Capitol Avenue, Hartford.
