Maria Do Carmo (Sousa) Resendes

Maria Do Carmo (Sousa) Resendes, 88, of New Britain, beloved wife for 68 years of the late Jose P. Resendes, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal on January 27, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Jacinto Augusto Sousa and Isabel de Andrade Sousa. Maria’s life revolved around taking care of her husband and raising their 11 children and grandchildren. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her 10 surviving children, Antonio Resendes and wife Aida, Ines Sousa and husband Alberto, Joe Resendes and wife Cidalia, Maria-José Ricardo, Isabel Mederios, Maria D’Amore and husband Dom, Lydia Resendes, John Resendes, José Resendes and Aida Couto and husband John; 19 adored grandchildren and 22 cherished great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Katina Resendes; her sister, Elena Sousa and three sisters-in-law, Maria Teresa, Fatima and Laura, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Maria was predeceased by her beloved son, Ernesto Resendes; son-in-law, Manny Ricardo; three brothers, Jacinto, Manuel and Anthony Sousa and a sister-in-law, Isabel Sousa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (December 12) at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
