Sister Marie D’Aprile, 90, a Sister of the Cross and Passion, passed away at St. Mary’s Home in West Hartford, Connecticut, on July 23, 2025. Sister Marie was born in Italy to Vito and Anna D’Aprile on September 18, 1934. The family returned to the United States when she was an infant. She entered the Sisters of the Cross and Passion in 1962 and was professed on May 29, 1965.
As a dedicated educator, Sister Marie taught for many years in schools served by the community. Her final years in education were spent at Bishop McVinney School in Providence, Rhode Island. Her devotion to students, especially in this inner-city school, was evident in her warmth, hugs, concerns, and, more importantly, in a teaching style that accommodated the needs of each child.
Upon her retirement, Sister Marie returned to Connecticut to become a caregiver, while working part-time at Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center in Farmington and volunteering wherever there was a need. In her final years, her ministry of presence continued through interaction with residents at Executive Square and St. Mary’s Home.
Sister Marie’s love of family was evident in her many stories of the joys and sorrows of its members. She is survived by her sister Teresa Crescimanni (Jack), her sisters-in law, Mary Jane and Elaine, several loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Benjamin and Achille (Kelly) D’Aprile.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at St. Mary's Home for their exceptional care, compassion and kindness.
