Maryann J. (Mauro) Agiato, 86, of Wethersfield and formerly of Brooklyn NY, beloved wife for 65 years of the late Joseph Agiato, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Born in Brooklyn on August 6, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Sophie (Scalise) Mauro. When Maryann was young, one of her passions was playing piano, and she was accomplished enough to play in a recital at Carnegie Hall. While in high school, she met her lifelong friend Carol, and they remained friends throughout their lives. On June 13, 1959, Maryann married the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Agiato.
While raising her three children, Maryann worked part time at Beacon Photo, and then went on to work at Expeditors Publishing and Patterson Fuel, earning her Associate’s Degree from Nassau Community College at the same time. She then worked for the Town Clerk of the Village of Great Neck before retiring in 2006 as the District Clerk for Bellmore Public Schools. After retirement, she and Joe joined The Maestros music group on Long Island, where Maryann rekindled her love of playing piano. She was even more excited when she found that one of her grandchildren shared the same passion! She and Joe moved to Connecticut in 2012 and settled in Wethersfield, where they enjoyed time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as traveling to Florida and taking cruises.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maryann will be forever missed by her three children, Joseph Agiato, Jr. and wife Maria (Gallo), Anthony Agiato and wife Carol (Kucmarski) and Lisa-Anne Foster and husband Robert. “Nona” will be fondly remembered by her six adored grandchildren, Christopher, (Alix Madeo) Andrew (Maria Teal), Elizabeth (Joshua Harris), John-Joseph, Anthony and Michael and her two cherished great-grandchildren, Addison and Elijah Harris with a third on the way! She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, Maryann was predeceased by her brother, Frank Mauro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
