Mauro Altomare

Mauro Altomare, 82, of West Hartford, husband of the late Theresa (Aloi) Altomare, died suddenly, (Saturday, July 11, 2009) at home. He was born March 27, 1927, in Molfetta, province of Bari, Italy and was the son of the late Luigi and Marta Maria Altomare. While in Italy he joined the Merchant Marines and served three tours and he also played semi-pro soccer. He was a restaurant manager in Manhattan, NY for over 25 years, and later worked as a landscaper and a roofer, retiring in 1991. Mauro was an avid New York Yankee fan who loved all sports, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by a son, Joseph A. Altomare of West Hartford; and a daughter, Maria Lewis and her husband Michael of Windsor; grandchildren, Antoinette Altomare and Lisamarie Altomare; a great grandson, Jessie Altomare; a brother, Mario Altomare and his wife Teresa of Australia; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Donna Altomare. Funeral service will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. The burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
