Michael Mike, the Barber Lombardo

Michael “Mike, the Barber”, Lombardo, 86, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Born in Sciacca, Sicily on July 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Santo and Lucia Lombardo. Mike grew up in Canicattini Bagni, province of Siracusa, Sicily and immigrated to Hartford with his wife Nina (Gionfriddo) Lombardo to raise a family. He came to this country to achieve the American dream. He found success as a long time barber and co-owner of Modern Barber Shop in Wethersfield. His favorite past times were engaging in long conversations, joking around, working in the garden, fixing anything needing repair, buying lottery tickets and taking regular trips to the casino. He was a big fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and watching the History channel. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, Mike will be forever missed by his three daughters, Lucia Loura and husband Arthur of East Hampton, Joann Lombardo and husband Antoine Bissieux of Middletown and Tina Barone and husband Michael of Wethersfield; his four adored granddaughters; Meghan Loura Ciacchero and husband Michael, Carly Loura, Claudia and Camille Barone, a great nephew Yari Cassarino and step-grandson, Arthur Bissieux. He is also survived by his sister, Lilla Ciurcina of Rocky Hill and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends, both in the U.S. and in Italy. Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Nina; three brothers and four sisters. The family is eternally grateful to Caregiving by Kathy at The Lodge at Cold Spring, Rocky Hill, as well as the compassionate staff at UConn John Dempsey Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday (January 23) at 9 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Family and friends may call on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
