Myles G. McCarthy, Jr., 67, affectionately known as “Poppi”, passed away in peace at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Myles and his wife, Lise raised 3 beautiful children in South Windsor. Myles doted on his children and was exceeding proud of the adults they have become. Time spent with his children brought him great pride and joy. He coached all 3 of his children in various sports, making him well known by young people, who continue to ask about him. Myles instilled in his family the belief that there is only one kind of fan, and that would be a Yankee fan. In recent years, Myles fell in love with a big yellow lab named Boo, who arrived at his home as a foster dog and stole his heart with his big brown eyes. Myles was proud of his boy Boo and it was his belief that everyone else loved his dog, too. Boo was not a good dog, Boo was a “very good dog.” Myles was a passionate golfer, amassing a collection of trophies over the years. Myles was a familiar face at many golf courses in the area, especially Manchester Country Club where he was a member for many years. Myles eventually turned pro, competing in local and regional tournaments and aided by his caddy and daughter, Caitlin. Born in Hartford on October 7, 1947, he was the son of the late Myles G. and Ann (Nassetta) McCarthy and grew up in Wethersfield. Myles was self-employed at Myles G. McCarthy & Assoc. and was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his wife, Lise; two sons, Mark D. McCarthy and his fiancée Katie McDonald and Thomas P. McCarthy and his wife Justine; his daughter, Caitlin T. McCarthy and his new grandson, Dylan Myles McCarthy. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Sullivan and her husband David, niece Jane “Franky” Sullivan-Klett and her husband Colin Klett, all of Glastonbury.
A memorial service will be held on Monday June 22 at 2 p.m. at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Rd., South Windsor followed by a reception at 4 p.m. at Manchester Country Club. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to either Labs4Rescue, http://labs4rescue.com/donations.shtml or Research at Yale Smilow Cancer Hospital http://giveclosertofree.org/donate.html.
