Nicola Nick Cusano

Nicola “Nick” Cusano, 89, of West Hartford, beloved husband for 63 years of the late Christine (Piacente) Cusano, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 28, 2015 after a short illness. He was born in Sepino, province of Campobasso, Italy on March 2, 1926 and was the son of the late Francesco and Maria (Pizzente) Cusano.

Nick retired after 40 years from HELCO. He could always be found working in his garden, tending his vegetable plants or working anywhere outside. Nick was a kind and generous man, devoted to his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone who needed him. Nick devoted many years to the annual collection for the St. Cristina Church in Sepino, keeping alive the traditions of his heritage. He was a communicant of the Church of St. Helene in West Hartford and a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Cristina Society.

He is survived by his children, Frank Cusano and Mary Babin, his beloved granddaughter Melissa (Babin) Jameson and her husband Jon. He is also survived by his brother, Luigi Cusano of Rocky Hill, brothers-in-law Peter Piacente and his wife Diane of West Hartford and John Piacente and his wife Donna of Old Saybrook along with his dear sister in-law Linda Nuhn of Cromwell along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his wife, Nick was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Nick’s family would also like to thank his caregivers Stefania and Dunata for making him comfortable in his last days.

Funeral services will leave Monday at 10 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Helena, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 8:30-10 a.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt.
