

Honorata 'Nora' Oszurek, 86, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Benjamin Oszurek, died Sunday, (September 28, 2008) in Hartford. Born in Slanec, Okres Kosice, Chechoslavakia, daughter of the late Jan and Maria (Petruniak) Wrobel, she had lived in Hartford for 35 years prior to moving to Wethersfield in 1985. Honorata was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford, the Rosary Society, Golden Seniors, the Polish National Alliance Group 464 and the Polish Women's Alliance Group 553. Nora worked for Royal Typewriter for nine years and for the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation, Property Control for 23 years, retiring in 1987. She met a handsome American Soldier, Benny Oszurek, on April 28, 1945 in Mannheim- Neckarau, Germany. They were married on August 18, 1945 at St. George Church in Hockenheim, Germany by a Polish priest, Rev. Roman Krajewski. She arrived in the United States of America in March of 1947 with her Army husband and their daughter, Nellie. Besides her loving husband of 63 years, she is survived by three children; two sons, Richard Oszurek and his wife, Christine, of Hartford and Paul Oszurek and his wife, Mary Jane, of St. Albans, VT; a daughter, Nellie Simlick and her husband, John, of Ledyard; a brother, Antoni Wrobel of Warszawa, Poland; four grandchildren, Andrea Schultz and her husband, Tim, of Ivoryton, Erica Chandler and her husband, Jeff, of Mystic, Michelle Gardella and her husband, Tom, of West Hartford and Sophia Oszurek; five great grandchildren, Tanner and Tucker Schultz, Kaiden and Keeghan Chandler and Braedon Gardella; three nieces and three nephews, all in Poland. Three brothers and three sisters predeceased Nora. Funeral will be Thursday, October 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave, Hartford. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
