On December 28, 2023, the world lost a true character with the passing of Paul James Murasso at the age of 59. Paul departed this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and stories that will be told for generations. Paul was born on August 16, 1964, and grew up with his loving family in the South End of Hartford. He attended South Catholic High School, where he was voted “most lovable” in his class. He then moved on to Central Connecticut State University where he fought as an All-American Heavyweight Boxer and earned the title in 1984 of Light Heavyweight National Collegiate Boxing Champion – A title that surely made anyone who crossed him in the ring question their life choices. Even Russia got a taste of the “Murasso Magic.” Paul’s early career involved working with his dad at their family business, Vanity Cleaners. He moved on to dedicate the remainder of his career to the Connecticut Department of Corrections, where he earned the nickname “Knuckles.” Rumor has it though, that even the toughest inmates couldn't resist his charm. Paul had a huge heart. He was a friend to everyone he met, and his kindness knew no bounds. He had so much love to give and he never judged a soul.
Paul leaves behind his incredible 92-year-old mother, Geraldine Murasso, his sister, Anne Patrice Dineen and his two daughters, Taryn and Camryn Murasso, who undoubtedly inherited his wit and charm. He was predeceased by his father, Alphonse Murasso Jr. and his sweet dog, Daisy.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated honoring Paul's life at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3 at Our Lady of Peace Church, 370 May Rd., East Hartford. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery, South Glastonbury. The family will receive guests from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday morning prior to the Mass directly at the Church. As we bid farewell to this one-of-a-kind soul, let's remember him for the laughter, the love, and the uniquely Paul moments that made our lives brighter. May he rest in eternal peace. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his memory be made to The Phoenix Recovery Program at www.thephoenix.org. Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield. To share a memory of Paul, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com.
