Philomena Phyllis Mauro

Philomena ""Phyllis"" Mauro, 89, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Born in Hartford, July 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Rosalina (DiMauro) and Salvatore Carpentieri. Philomena was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, Hartford. She worked at the Travelers Insurance Co. for many years prior to a life-changing vacation to Italy, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Frank Mauro. They married January 21, 1953 and together they had three children and raised their family in Hartford and Old Lyme. Philomena was an active member over the years for Mt Carmel St. Christina Society in East Hartford, the Red Hatters Club and the Hartford Junior Women's League. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Philomena was predeceased by her husband, Frank Mauro and her sister, Anne C. Amenta. She is survived by her son, Joseph Mauro and his wife Meg of Charleston, SC, her son, Ted Mauro and his wife Joyce of Wethersfield, her daughter Camille Mauro - Highter and her fiancé, Craig Hines of Killingworth. She had six loving grandchildren, Kristen Mauro - Michaels and her husband Lew of Middletown, Lauren Mauro of Wethersfield, Jesse Mauro of Brooklyn, NY, Dana Mauro of Wethersfield, Luke Mauro of Daytona Beach, FL and Shane Highter of Killingworth. Philomena is also survived by her only great grandchild, Andrew Michaels, who always put a smile on her face. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all her family and friends. Funeral service will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 280 Brook Street, Rocky Hill. The burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
