Pietro Ragno

Pietro Ragno, 91, of Hartford, beloved husband for 41 years of the late Caterina (Paruta) Ragno, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Born on September 7, 1932 in Floridia, province of Siracusa, Sicily, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Concetta (Burgo) Ragno. Pietro came to the U.S. in the 1960s. He was a skilled bricklayer who worked in the construction industry for many years. He was a member of the Italian American Stars and was an avid fan of Italian soccer, as well as the New York Giants. He loved tending to his garden and sharing his harvest with friends and family.

A loving father and grandfather, Pietro will be forever missed by his three children, Concetta Canellieri and husband Vincenzo of Middletown, Josephina Keen and husband Arden of Newington and Anthony Ragno and wife Zaida of Manchester and his three adored grandchildren, Nedra Keen and fiancé Jaime DaCosta of Brooklyn, NY, Victoria and Ariel Keen, both of Newington. He is also survived by his brother, Salvatore Ragno of Rocky Hill; his sister, Carmela Santangelo and husband Corrado of Wethersfield; his brother-in-law, Rosario Formica of Wethersfield, and many dear nieces, nephews and extended family members, both in the U.S. and in Italy. In addition to his wife and parents, Pietro was predeceased by his sister, Palma Formica. The family would like to thank the amazing residents and staff at The Retreat in Hartford-they were friends who became a second family to Pietro, where he enjoyed his time living there. Special thanks as well to the staff at the Hospital of Central CT for their kindness and compassion.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 27 from 10-11:30 a.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 11:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
