

Richard A. Foxall, 86, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 57 years of Jane (Tangarone) Foxall, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday (November 20, 2009). The son of the late Rev. Thomas and Mary (Sefton) Foxall, he was born November 22, 1922 in Greenfield, MA. He attended grade school in Worcester, MA and high school in Bloomfield, CT. Richard proudly served as a medic with the Marine Corps, 2nd Division in WWII. Upon returning from the war, he received his BA degree from Wesleyan University in 1949. He later earned his MA in Education Administration from the University of Hartford. Richard began his teaching career in Hartford before moving to Wethersfield, where he taught elementary and high school for 31 years. A member of the First Church of Christ, Hartford for over 50 years, he served in a variety of capacities including deacon, teacher and historian. He was also a faithful member of Civitan for over 40 years. Richard?s career in service extended into the YMCA, Little League, 51 Club for the Blind, and the Wethersfield Historical Society. During retirement, he enjoyed working as a museum guide for the Webb Deane Stevens House and gave tours of the Wethersfield Cove Warehouse. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Sutton, New Hampshire with family and friends. Besides his wife Jane, Richard is survived by his three children, Michael Foxall and his wife Elise of Canaan, NH, Susan Foxall Hayes and her husband Patrick of Wethersfield and Jeffrey Foxall and his wife Mary McAfee of Winston-Salem, NC, his six grandchildren, Benjamin, Daniel, Kyle and Sally Hayes and Samuel and Lydia Foxall, and many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Charles Foxall and his sister, Carolyn F. Engargiola. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the D?Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with the Reverend Paul Goodman officiating.
