Richard W. Vicino, 75, of Old Saybrook and Rocky Hill, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband to his wife of 34 years, Susan Moser Vicino, and a devoted father to his two children, Alexandra Rose Vicino, of NYC, and Christopher Maxwell Vicino of Old Saybrook.
Richard was born on May 18, 1947 to Nicholas and Rosemary Vicino and was raised in Wethersfield with his sister Rosemary and brother Nicholas. Richard went on to spend a lifetime building his business in Development, Construction Management and Consulting. Locally he built public parks, a fish ladder, churches, health care facilities, concert venues, shopping plazas, military projects, auto dealerships and one of the first over 55 housing projects in Greater Hartford. His expertise was highly regarded. Richard went on to consult with a New York based firm to develop and build luxury rental apartments across the state. Not to be forgotten was Richard’s tenure as a Commissioner of the Metropolitan District Commission, a role he took great pride in filling for 18 years. With each new project Richard made an impact with his expertise, professionalism and lifelong friendships built along the way. Richard became a mentor to some and a friend to all. Most importantly, his greatest joy was time spent at home in Old Saybrook with his family. He was a self-less father to his children and took great pride being present and taking an active role.
Richard leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Ralph Theriault of Harvard, MA, his brother and sister-in-law Nicholas and Mary-Ellyn Vicino of Old Saybrook. He also leaves Jo Ann and George Moser of Durham, NC and Kristine and Gary Moser of Wethersfield, and a host of nieces, nephews and their children. Richard was a kind, understated, honorable man who will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.
