Salvatore “Sal” Malinguaggio, 92, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025. A devoted husband, he was married for 56 wonderful years to the love of his life, the late Carmela “Carm” (D’Angelo) Malinguaggio.
Born in Hartford on October 3, 1932, Sal was the beloved son of the late Sebastiano and Concetta (Aliano) Malinguaggio. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an engineer for Pratt & Whitney and became the owner of many successful businesses, allowing him to retire in his late 40s.
Sal had a deep love for his Sicilian heritage and never passed up a good Italian meal. He was an enthusiastic fan of UConn basketball and football, and a lifelong supporter of Tom Brady—no matter what team he played for.
Sal served as a Eucharistic Minister in his early years. He enjoyed spending summers with his family at his cottage in Old Lyme, as well as dancing and listening to music. He treasured trips to Florida and Disney with his family—so much so that, in his final days, he joyfully shared, “I can’t wait to meet up with Carm and head to Disney World when I get to heaven.”
Nothing brought Sal greater happiness than time spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who never missed a sporting event, recital, or celebration.
Sal leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his two daughters, Donna Kominske and husband Larry of Middletown, and Paula Cassarino and husband Mike of Rocky Hill, six adored grandchildren: Matt Kominske, Mike Kominske and wife Angela, Mark Kominske and wife Hannah, Melissa Palmieri and husband Eric, Nicole Cassarino and Vincent Cassarino, and his eight cherished great-grandchildren: Logan, Cameron, Liam, Carson, Evelyn, Gianna, Giada and Tessa; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at St. James Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Burial with military honors will follow at Center Cemetery, Rocky Hill. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
