Siegfried H. Maronn, 82, husband of Charlotte (Helm) Maronn, since 1965, of Wethersfield passed away unexpectedly on 10/23/23 at home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer & dementia with family by his side. Sigi was born in Germany to his late parents Paul & Ottilie Maronn. Sigi & his family escaped from Germany during the war in a Haywagon and arrived in America in 1952 where he resided in Hartford before settling in Wethersfield. He attended Bulkeley High School and graduated in 1959.
He served as an apprentice at Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool in West Hartford, which started his career in the Machinist industry. After they closed their doors, he continued in this field for many years doing assembly work & as an inspector for various companies such as New England Machine, Valeron Corp and finally at Emhart Glass in Windsor CT retiring in 2000 when they moved out of state. He spent the next 5 years happily working at the deli at Stop & Shop in Glastonbury. He married the love of his life Charlotte and they made their home in Hartford, CT where they raised their two daughters-Heidi & Ingrid. He was a devoted husband and proud father who cherished time spent with family and friends. A lighthearted man, he had a loving, kind and gentle nature with a great sense of humor. In his younger years, Sigi was an avid bowler, water & down-hill skier. He enjoyed fishing & boating on the Connecticut River and Highland Lake with his family. He loved taking pictures of their beautiful flowers, garden and home. Nothing gave him more pleasure, then spending time with his only granddaughter Ashley who was the apple of his eye. He’d chaperone on school trips just to spend more time with her and handed out silver dollars to her classmates. He had many pets throughout his years but taking leisurely drives with no destination in mind with his dog Gidget in his blue Dodge Dakota-Nelly and strolling around the neighborhood visiting with his protector Lady gave him joy. He was a devoted NY Yankee, NE Patriot & UConn Husky fan. After a long hot day of working in his yard, he could be found at the Old Town, telling his stories and enjoying an ice cold Bud light with his buddies hoping for a competitive game of cribbage. He enjoyed making Pizzelles around the holidays but enjoyed his wife’s gourmet baking one piece of cake at a time more.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte he is survived and will be dearly missed by his daughters; Heidi Maronn of Glastonbury, Ingrid Opito and her fiancé Devon Wrubel of Wethersfield, his granddaughter Ashley Peers and her husband Peter, his only cousin Ronnie Schmitt of Boston MA & the Helm Family. He was predeceased by his sister, Ingeborg Maronn, his brother Joachim Maronn and his son-in-law Robert Opito.
Family and friends are invited Friday, October 27, 2023 for a time of visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Prayer service will commence at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.desopofuneralchapel.com for the Maronn family.
