

Susan “Sue” J. (Brown) Batt, 79, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 24 years of Richard Batt, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Born in New Bedford, MA on April 24, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Kinnane) Brown. Sue grew up in Middletown and was a graduate of Middletown High School. She worked as a secretary for the CT Labor Department for more than 30 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed boating, traveling and cheering on the UConn Women’s Basketball team. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her loving husband Richard, Sue will be forever missed by her sons, Morgan Monarca and wife Melissa of Middletown and Salvatore Monarca of Huger, SC; her stepchildren, Steven Batt of Storrs, Karen Batt of Swampscott, MA and Chris Batt of North Franklin; five adored grandchildren, Kyle Monarca, Madeline Monarca, Dalaina Monarca, Addison Batt and Finn Batt. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Brown and wife Ellen; her sister, Mary Kay Chapman and husband David of Killingworth and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Sheila Burns and her daughter-in-law, Lea Monarca.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Sue on Saturday, April 4 with a calling hour from 10-11 a.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
