

Thomas ""Tom"" S. McGrath, 81, of Wethersfield, born October 13, 1933 in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. to the late George W. McGrath, Sr. and Cordelia (Phillips) McGrath passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Tom was educated in Garden City public schools, at the Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J. and at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA., where he excelled at athletics including football, wrestling and lacrosse. Tom served as Eucharistic Minister at Trinity Church, Wethersfield for 30 years and as Associate Brother of the Society of St. John the Evangelist, Cambridge, MA. for 20 years. Tom was a Mason for over 50 years including membership in the Newington Level Lodge 140. He was also Chaplin Emeritus of the former Hospitality Lodge 128, Wethersfield and a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Hartford where he received the Meritorious Service Award (MSA). Tom was a member of the Sphinx Shriners Temple where he served as Past President and Chief Director Emeritus of the Director's Staff. In addition Tom was a member of the Wethersfield Country Club for over 40 years. Tom was the Vice President of McGrath Associates, a manufacturer's representative for commercial heating and air conditioning equipment. For many years during his professional career, Tom was Vice President for two of the leading mechanical contractors in Connecticut. Tom, was a wonderful and very dear son, brother and friend. In addition to his parents Tom was predeceased by his loving family members; Frances (Frannie) L. Zostant, Patricia C. McGrath, George W. McGrath, Jr. and his wife Eleanor (Nelson) McGrath, George F. Phillips and his wife Mary Ellen (Reynolds) Phillips, Thomas E. Phillips, Garland J. Phillips, Deidre Phillips and Donna McGrath. Tom leaves behind his very devoted and loving sister, Priscilla (Pam) McGrath of Windsor, and Jeff J. Phillips and family. Tom also leaves behind his very good friends; Fred Becher Jr, and his wife Susan and their family, Jim D'Rico and the Reverend and Mrs. John Rodgers, Past Pastor of Trinity Church, Wethersfield. Funeral services and burial at Village Cemetery, Wethersfield, will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Tom's memory be made out to the Shriners Children's Hospital , 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA., 01104 or to The American Parkinson Disease Association, P.O.
