A son of the late Nathaniel Earl and Emma Gladys Howard Paxton, he was born on March 3, 1929 in Alleghany County, Virginia.
Mr. Paxton has lived in the Grottoes area for the past nearly 60 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retired from General Electric and was a affiliated with the Baptist church.
On March 10, 1950, he married Phyllis Craft Paxton, who preceded him in death on March 31, 1992.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Arthur Paxton, and Michael Wayne Paxton, both of Grottoes; one daughter, Linda Marie Simmons, of Lacey Spring; four brothers, Lloyd A. Paxton, of Alexandria, George R. Paxton, of Rockville, MD, Charles C. Paxton, of Rockville, MD and William Earl Paxton, of Little Rock, AR; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at the Alleghany Memorial Park, near Covington, VA.
The casket will be closed and there will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
