Claude Leroy Wampler

He was born February 17, 1929 in Augusta County and was the son of the late Byron J. Wampler, Sr. and Anna Belle Cupp Wampler.

Claude lived his entire life in Augusta County and he graduated from Mt. Sidney High School and attended Bridgewater College. He had been employed with the Weyers Cave Milling Company, Early Dawn Dairy, Safeway Grocery, and he retired from DuPont after 31 years. He and his wife had attended Middle River Church of the Brethren.

Claude had eight years of piano lessons in school and played at his graduation.

On December 30, 1950, he married the former Janet Sipe, who survives. They were married for 62 years.

Also surviving are a son, Kelly Wayne Wampler and wife, Tracey Lynn; a daughter, Janna Renee Wampler Shank, all of Grottoes area; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, John Wampler and wife, Doris, of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephew.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Byron J. Wampler, Jr. and his wife.

The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM, Friday, March 22, 2013 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Middle River Church of the Brethren with Pastor Frankie Hall, Speakers Mike Twitchell and Eugene Souder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
