Mrs. Edith Harris Groah

She was born on August 11, 1917 in Rockbridge County, VA, and was the daughter of the late Howard and Betty Slater Harris.

Mrs. Groah was educated in Rockbridge County school system and lived the majority of her life in the Weyers Cave Community. In the 1940’s and 50’s she worked for DuPlan in Grottoes. She was a member of the Weyers Cave United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose #1320, and was a founding member of the Weyers Cave Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

On April 20, 1935 she married Thurman L. Groah, who preceded her in death on February 13, 2007.

Mrs. Groah is survived by a son, Melvin L. Groah of Weyers Cave, a daughter, Dorothy Harman and husband, Rev. P. A. Harman, Jr. of Cranberry Township, PA, two grandsons, Rev. Paul A. Harman, III and wife Elaine of Dunkirk, NY, Timothy Groah Harman and wife, Brooke of Pittsburgh, PA, two great-grandchildren, Layne Elizabeth and Graham Parnell Harman.

The family will receive friends 7-9:00 PM, Monday, May 31, 2010, at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave.

A funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 1, at Weyers Cave United Methodist Church with Rev. Wesley Thornberry, The Rev. P.A. Harman, Jr., The Rev. Paul Harman, III, and Don Kuhns, Harrisonburg Fire Department Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Weyers Cave United Methodist Church or Weyers Cave Fire Company, in her memory.
