Mabel Brown, 82, of Verona, VA, died Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, VA. She was born on October 12, 1938, in New Orleans, LA, as the oldest of five children to Etienne and Louise Champagne. She was predeceased by her mother and father, her husband - Eugene H. Brown, and her brothers - Rudolph (Rudy) and Daniel. Left to cherish her memory are her children - Ann (Brian) Brobson, John Brown, and Paul Brown; her grandchildren – Adele (Joshua) Pereira, Grant Brobson, Adam Brobson, Valerie Brobson, and Noah Brown; and her great grandchild – Ronin Pereira. She is also survived by two sisters – Marlene (Andrew) Morel and Lois Untereiner, sister-in-law – Sharon Clough, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Over the years, Mabel accumulated many close friends including Shirley Kelley, Patsy Rhinehart, Larry and Pat Lawhorn, Norma and Homer Wilson Eutsler, John and Mildred Back, and the late Melvin Lawhorn. She also greatly appreciated the care, assistance, and love from the Flesher family (Kim, Edwin, Brianna, and Lattinia), and two nieces - Sue (Bill) Finch, and Rae (Tim) McMurray. Mabel spent much of her life helping others while working at the Commissioner of Revenue in Staunton, VA and as the cafeteria manager at S. Gordon Stewart Middle School in Fort Defiance, VA. She was loved by her family and friends and will be missed deeply by all. A graveside funeral service scheduled for 11 am, Saturday, September 11, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens (1921 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA) where she will be laid to rest. Garold Senger, Jr. will officiate. A time to visit with friends and family will follow at a different location. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Donors Choose”, a program to fund special projects for classrooms at S. Gordon Stewart Middle School.
