Marie Sipe Yancey

She was born on June 13, 1919 in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Henry and Lorena Saufley Sipe.

Marie was a graduate of Weyers Cave High School and had lived in Weyers Cave for fifty years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Weyers Cave United Methodist Church.

On April 8, 1950 she married, Thomas L. Yancey, who preceded her in death on January 26, 2008.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Kennedy and husband, Tom, of Verona; Doris Norris and husband, Ron; Linda Stickley and husband, Scott, all of Weyers Cave; two grandsons; three step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Janet Edwards and husband, Harlin, of Staunton, Gladys Brown of Harrisonburg, Mildred Diehl and husband, Bill, of New Market; and her caregiver, Stephanie Balser.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Yancey.

A memorial service will be held at Weyers Cave United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Peggy Packard officiating. Burial will be private at a later date.
