Warren Kemper Saufley, 93, of Weyers Cave passed away on Tuesday evening, July 11, 2017 at his home. He was born on June 5, 1924 in Grottoes and was the son of the late Floyd and Edna Craun Saufley. Warren was a lifelong resident of Weyers Cave and graduated from Weyers Cave High School. He served in the US Army during WWII and earned two purple hearts and numerous other medals while in the European Theater. He owned and operated grocery stores before retiring and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sue Saufley; a son, Joseph W. Saufley and wife, Gerry, of Moseley, VA; a daughter, Susan S. Huffman of Albuquerque, NM; a daughter-in-law, Brenda B. Saufley of NC; step-children, John A. Baars and Fred W. Baars and wife, Nanette all of Grottoes; grandchildren, Matthew J. Saufley and wife, Dana; Melissa S. Englisby and husband Mark, Patrick J. Garr and wife, Michelle, Lindsey S. Litchfield and husband, David; step-grandchildren, Dave L. Bushong and Samantha J. Baars; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Saufley and wife, Betty, of Mt. Crawford, Carl Saufley and wife, Kitty, of NC, Richard Saufley and wife, Ann, of Marion, VA. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Alda E. Saufley; a son, Edwin E. Saufley; sisters, Ruth Ritchie, and Mary Crotts; brothers, Nelson, Paul, Tom and Harry Saufley. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Naked Creek Cemetery with Steve Saufley officiating. Military honors will be by Dayton American Legion Post #27. There will be no formal visitation but friends may sign the register book at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.lindseyweyerscave.com.
