

Ayer, Marguerite Jennie- 99, Annapolis Royal formerly of Southville, Digby County, passed away peacefully March 14, 2022, in the Annapolis Community Health Centre. Born the second oldest child of the late Hermon and Oressa (Prime) Steele in Southville where she lived most of her life before moving to Annapolis.
At a young age, Gram found she enjoyed looking after others. She cared for her neighbors Adeline and George at the age of 14 before moving to Halifax to take a position cleaning and caring for a professional couple. During her time in Halifax, she met a young soldier from Petitcodiac, NB who broke the ice at church asking for the loan of a coin for the collection.
After their wedding in 1944, they spent the next 50 years seeing many wonderful sites, the birth of their children and grandchildren, even their first great-grand child. Many trips around the Atlantic provinces camping and picnicking. Later Gram would also welcome four more great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandsons.
Blue Nanny, as she was affectionately called by her first great grandchild lived a long fulfilling life. She took pleasure in her special friendship with her siblings and her love for God and all things family. Before moving to Annapolis, she was an active member of the DSR Ladies Auxiliary, the Meeting House a historical building built by her ancestors where she attended Sing Songs and spending time cooking and volunteering for the Spring/Fall benefits. She enjoyed her time as a member of the Save and Do Group at the church and her weekly quilting times were the highlight of her days.
The matriarch of her family, she will be greatly missed by her daughter Norma-Lee (Glendon) Therrio, Annapolis Royal her son Clark (Edith Ryan) Ayer, New Edinburgh, granddaughters Tammie (Jonathan) Taylor, Karsdale, Pattie (Peter) Todd, Lloydminster, AB, great-grandchildren Jessica (Derrick) Bush, Madison Todd, Mackenzie Taylor, Riley Todd and Melina Taylor and her special great-great grandsons Logan, Blake and Nathan; special friend Leota Lewis, nieces Gladys (Edward) Cromwell, Irma (Vernon) Goudey, Joan (Lou) Outhouse, Joyce Dugas and nephew Anthony (Susan) McCullough and her beloved nieces and nephews from her Petitcodiac family.
She is predeceased by the love of her life, George Ayer, their two infant daughters, sisters, Winnifred Gaudet, Florence McCullough, Evonne Steele and brother Stedman Steele; brothers-in-law Philip Gaudet, Ralph McCullough, and William Ayer, Grant Ayer and John Ayer and their spouses; sister in laws Araminta Morton and Betty Williams and their spouses, nephew Delphie Gaudet and daughter-in-law Patricia Ayer.
Donations can be made to the Meeting House Society, The Annapolis Palliative Care Society or a charity of one’s choice. Visitation will be 6-8pm on March 21, 2022 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Weymouth.
