

Bernice, 93, a native and resident of White Castle, passed away Tuesday morning, July 5, 2011. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in White Castle on Friday, July 8, beginning at 1 p.m. with the celebration of her funeral Mass at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at the White Castle Cemetery. Bernice was a beloved homemaker and retired school bus driver. She drove children spanning several generations to local schools and field trips. In 1967, she became the first woman to serve on the Iberville Parish Police Jury, serving out the term of her deceased husband, Victor Wintz. Her interests included cooking, gardening and loving her family. She thrived in the presence of young people. She is survived by her daughters, Robbie Lee Tomeny, Sundra Babin (Luke) and Vicky Engolio (John). Her nine grandchildren are Michael Tomeny (Sarah), Victor Tomeny (Janet), Kelly Edwards (Rick), Heidi Tomeny, Tiffany Bould (Mark), Shea Puglia (Frank), Natalie Isaacks (Ryan), Casey Crow (Veronica), and Ben "Rooter" Babin. Her 18 great-grandchildren are Jenny, Matthew, Robert, Trevor, Jade, Sean, Gabrielle, Lance, Robbie, Riley, Francesca, Chelsea, Kevin, Austin, Beatrice, Mary Lynn, Molly and Tyler. Her great-great-grandchildren are Camille and Miah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor L. Wintz; her parents, Robert and Josephine Gomez Savoy; and son-in-law, Michael J. Tomeny.
