John Cmur

John Cmur, 90, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. John was born and raised in Dunmore, PA. He married his wife, Mary, in 1954 and moved to Brick, NJ to raise their family. He retired to Whiting in the early ‘90’s.

John worked for many years as a plant manager for Orgo-Thermit, Inc. metal manufacturing in Manchester Township and was a member of the local Rotary Club. He began his studies for the priesthood at Christ The Savior Seminary in Johnstown, PA. He was ordained to the priesthood in October, 1992 at Holy Ghost Church in Manville, NJ. John served as pastor of St. Nicholas Church on 10th Street in New York City and later served a “temporary” assignment at St. Mary’s in Yonkers, NY for over 10 years. After retiring in 2018, he continued to help his community, serving in the diocese throughout New Jersey.

John loved sports. He enjoyed coaching Brick Recreational Soccer and especially loved watching his grandchildren play. He also enjoyed traveling abroad, especially to the Ukraine, and flower & vegetable gardening. His family has many fond memories of his lifetime of stories & travels. He will be dearly missed.

John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, in 1989; and his sister, Ann Woodring. He is survived by his 3 children, John David Cmur and his wife Cecelia of Toms River, NJ, Mary Linda Cmur and Erin Wolter and her husband Steven of Wall, NJ; 7 grandchildren, Justina and her husband Maged, Hailey, Christian, Gabriel, Isabella, MaryKate and Jack; and 3 great-grandchildren, Noah, Sage and Rosie. He is also survived by his niece, Mary Ann Toroney and her husband Andrew.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 12pm at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 505 Jefferson Ave. Scranton, PA. Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cemetery in Taylor, PA.
