Born Nancy A Kalish in Staten Island, NY, she was married to Frederick J Sklenar on May 13, 1961. She was the proud mother of two children. She worked for many years as a Medical Secretary before setting her career aside to raise a family in West Brighton. Her greatest love was her family and her pets. She also had a great love for music and enjoyed attending plays on Broadway and concerts at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan. She was known for her spirited personality, sharp wit, and love for people. In her later years she would ride her motorized scooter in the local area to meet and greet her neighbors with her dog Lola to enjoy the warmth and sunshine of good conversation.
During her relationship with her first husband, she was responsible for the design, implementation and coordination of construction of a vacation home in Roscoe, NY. She had a keen eye for interior design through her ability to improve the form and function of living spaces by focusing on finishes and placement of personal style items. It made her very happy to redecorate. She had a particular love for the country and spent many summers picking berries on the side of the road to share experiences with her children baking in the kitchen, bird watching and bonding with nature in Upstate NY. Nancy also had a passion for gardening and painting wildlife, landscapes and flowers from her own garden which was also a favorite subject of her artwork. She also had a deep love for animals and was a frequent visitor to the Popcorn Park Zoo in Forked River, NJ.
Residing in Staten Island for over 50 years, Nancy and her second Husband Edmund D Mullin, for 30 years, settled in Whiting NJ to enjoy their retirement and loved the tranquility of visiting Harry Wright Lake.
A Volunteer at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Whiting, Nancy was especially proud of assisting the pastor in creating the first Christian Seder at the parish. Another of Nancy’s passions was enjoying cooking and serving large family meals on weekends and Holidays.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Eileen A. Menegas and her husband Jeffrey in Matawan, New Jersey and her son Frederick I Sklenar and his wife Annette Hennekens Sklenar of St. Paul, Minnesota. Also survived by her stepdaughter Stacy Weinstein and her husband Ricky of Trumbull, Connecticut and their daughter Madeline. She was predeceased by her husband Edmund “Donald” Mullin.
