On Saturday, May 21, 2022, Robert Stanley Hansen, loving father of three children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, passed away at the age of 99. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Judith Lillian (Pedersen) and his two brothers, Thomas Hansen and Kenneth Hansen. Bob is survived by his three children: Leeanne Hansen, Donna Lynn and her husband Joseph White, and Roger Hansen and his wife, Barbara. Bob also had five grandchildren: Matthew (married to Meghan,) Lyndsey (married to Benjamin Hayes,) Larissa, Kelsey, and Kristen (married to Evan Peer) as well as four great-grandchildren: Samuel, Madeline, Emily, and Gabrielle.
Bob was born on February 13, 1923 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Thomas and Julie (Hubertz) Hansen. In his youth, Bob was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts and earned the honor of Eagle Scout. Later, Bob served our country in World War II as a navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress (351st Bomb Group), in which he flew 35 missions over Germany. Later, he served in the Air Force Reserves. After receiving his engineering degree from Brooklyn Polytech and his New York State engineering license, he worked 34 years for ESSO/Exxon as a professional engineer, and used his engineering skills to assist in the construction of the present building for Montvale Evangelical Free Church and the Purdy Center (formerly Woodlands) at Camp of the Woods. He married his wife Judith Pedersen on October 15, 1949, and celebrated 55 years of marriage together. He loved carpentry, fishing with brother Ken and son Roger, and gardening, and was known for his lovely roses and delicious tomatoes.
Bob dedicated his life to serving God, family, and country. He lived his faith quietly through his example of a Christian man and mentor to younger men and his involvement in Montvale Evangelical Free Church, Camp of the Woods, and Ocean County Evangelical Free Church. He was devo
ted to his family and was a loving husband and father, and thoroughly enjoyed his role as “Pop-Pop” to his five grandchildren and “Pop-Pop-Pop” to his four great-grandchildren. His kindness, sense of humor, and endless stories shared over bottomless cups of coffee will be missed by all who knew him.
A committal to include military honors for Robert will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at BrigGenWmCDoyleNJVeteransCemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
