

Rose C. Torpie, 93,of Crestwood Village, Whiting, NJ. since 1980 formerly of Hawthorne, NY passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Rose was born in Elmhurst, Long Island on October 14, 1920.
Rose is survived by her sister Claire Novey of Whiting, NJ. William her beloved husband of 61 years predeceased her in 2003. They were recognized for their long marriage by the archdiocese of New York. She is also predeceased by her son , 1st Lt. William J. Torpie, and her grandson Midshipman Robert P. Packowski, and son-in-law Robert W. Packowski. Rose was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother to 8 children, 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Rose is a Gold Star mother having lost her son in Vietnam in1969.
Rose is survived by seven daughters and their spouses; Jacqueline (Gerard) Hubertus of Carmel, NY., Patricia Packowski of Mesa, AZ., Rosemary (Thomas) Rounds of Binghamton, NY., Bernadette (Gary) Snook of Yorktown Heights, NY., Janice (Floyd) Scholz of Poughkeepsie, NY., Claire (Robert) McCloskey of Hopewell Jct., NY., and Theresa (Brian) Burgess of Hockessin, DE. Rose's seven daughters along with their families will miss her dearly and forever hold her memory in their hearts.
A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Whiting, NJ. on April 4, 2014 at 10:45 AM. A private burial for Rose and her husband William with military honors will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery on April 5, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Van Dyke Hospice, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ. 08755-6423.
