Anita Claire Fitts, a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, Anita was the daughter of Jack Dale Fancher Sr., of Seymour, TX, and Wanda Marguerite Fancher (née Highsmith), of Wichita Falls, TX.
Anita was raised with strong family values and a heart for service. She was preceded in death by her sister, Julia “Judy” Stone, and is survived by her brother, Jack Dale Fancher Jr.
She was married to the love of her life, James Herschel Fitts Sr., who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life centered around love, faith, family, and adventure. They were devoted members of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir City, Tennessee, and spent over five years traveling across every state in the United States and through Canada before settling into their dream home in Lenoir City.
Anita was a proud and loving mother to three children: the late James Herschel Fitts Jr., Jacqueline Suzanne Cook of Tiverton, Rhode Island, and David Bryan Fitts of Lafayette, Louisiana. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Lauren Claire Fitts of Lafayette, LA.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Katlyn Suzanne Cook of Tiverton, RI; Christen Claire Cook of Providence, RI; and Dylan Bryan Fitts of Lafayette, LA. She was also blessed with one great-granddaughter, Sophia Suzanne Cook-Simmons of Tiverton, RI.
Anita lived a life marked by kindness, compassion, and grace. She had a nurturing spirit and an abiding love for children. Over the course of her life, she held a number of jobs, but her most treasured role was that of mother. She was a full-time mom until her children entered school, and continued to provide love and guidance throughout their lives.
A viewing will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM. Anita will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park.
Her unwavering faith, boundless love, and generous heart will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
