Memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on December 13, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. The Rev. Don Pellikan will officiate.
Anne was born December 18, 1924 to Martha (Hatcher) and Sidney Kring in Beeville, Texas. Anne attended schools in Corpus Christi, Dallas, Harlingen and Wichita Falls. She graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School - “Old High” - in 1941 and then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She worked as assistant to the Purchasing Officer at Amarillo Army Air Field Exchange when her father was stationed there during World War II. In 1945 she returned to Wichita Falls and worked in the main office of S&Q Clothiers “The Hub” until it was moved to Dallas. In December of 1947 when Darrold Cannan, Sr. opened the new KFDX radio station she took a temporary job typing. The “temporary” job lasted for forty years. During that forty year period she held several positions at the radio station and then in 1953 when Mr. Cannan opened KFDX-TV she started working there. Anne was Traffic Manager, Director and Publicity Director during her thirty-five years in television. She held the positions of Avails Maintenance Manager and National Sales Director at the time of her retirement on December 31, 1987. After her retirement, she volunteered for several years at InterFaith Ministries and later, when her church started televising their Sunday services, she put her television directing experience to good use volunteering with the First United Methodist Church TV Ministry crew to broadcast and tape the Sunday sermons and other important events.
One of the retirement gifts from KFDX-TV was a set of golf clubs. As a result she took several lessons and that started a love affair with the game that lasted the rest of her life. Anne became a “Golfaholic”. She loved playing golf and her playing partners. Anne served in several officer positions in the Weeks Park Ladies Golf Association, Hawk Ridge LGA and North Texas LGA. Anne attended the statewide Texas Women’s Amateur Golf Association tournament for almost thirty years and during that time she won seven medals for placing first or second in her flight. Anne especially enjoyed playing golf with her dear friend, Linda Dowdy. They both enjoyed the game of golf and being out in God's beautiful open country.
Anne loved to fly, earning her pilot's license when she was very young. She also loved gambling and traveling. One of the highlights of her years was an annual trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where she joined her cousins Jane & Gary Lane and Raye & Chuck Koritnik and their families for a “mini” family reunion. Known as “Sweetie” to her family, many of her cousins didn't know her given name until they were adults. Anne loved hunting with her cousin Marnie Johnson on the family ranch in Live Oak County. She loved to sit in a blind and watch the animals feed and play.
Anne is preceded in death by her parents and sister Viola “Vicki” Oliveira.
She is survived by her nieces, Anne Bischoff of Toledo, Ohio and Becky Hartley of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the FUMC TV Ministry, InterFaith Ministries, Hospice of Wichita Falls or a charity of choice.
