

Charles is survived by his wife, Avonne Smith, his father Thomas Smith, his Children, Amanda, Charles Jr, Kenneth, and Michael, Brothers, Wayne, Bobby, Stephen and sister Janet and a host of grandchildren.
Charles was born in Marlin, Texas (Falls County) on September 21, 1949 to Thomas and Dorothy Smith. He was baptized at an early age at Providence Baptist Church in Marlin and was active in Sunday School and the Childrens choir. He graduated from Hirschi High School in Wichita Falls, TX. After graduation he attended Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, TX where he studied welding technology. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and and worked as an Air Policeman and served at Shepherd AFB,Texas, Ellisworth AFB South Dakota, Da Nang AB Vietnam, Takhali AB, Thailand and Mather AFB, California.
After military service Charles became a professional truck driver first with International Transport and later with Stage Call. He worked with many celebrities and music artist that included Prince, Pink Floyd, Jars of Clay, Willie Nelson, Earth, Wind and Fire, Gladys Night, and Chaka Khan, to name a few. He was affectionally known as “Mr Charley” out there on the road. And he knew how to get the job done.
Charley had a love for animals especially Schnauzer dogs. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Jamaica with his wife Avonne where they had many friends. His magical smile could light up the room. He was fun loving, easy going and made friends everywhere he went. He played baseball in highschool, was a big fan of baseball and loved the St. Louis Cardinals.
Charles was one of the kindest people you could ever meet and he will be truly missed.
