

Darlene Terrel, 80, of Wichita Falls passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home with Rev. Grant Palma and Rev. Tom Watson officiating. A visitation and reception will follow the service.
A graveside committal inurnment will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 21, 2015 at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler, Oklahoma.
Darlene was born September 22, 1934 in Shawnee, OK to the late George Earl and Helen Viola (Greening) Waters. She graduated from Shawnee High School. March 19, 1954, Darlene married E. E. ‘Gene’ Terrel in Shawnee and moved to Wichita Falls where she supported Gene in his career with Texas Electric. Together they raised two children.
Darlene enjoyed her life as a wife and mother, and along with Gene, was active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when their children were young. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a troop leader in the NorCenTex Girl Scout Council where she also operated the Scout Store for many years. As the children grew, she became an active Band Parent with ‘The Big Red Band from Coyote Land’ at WFHS.
Darlene was an excellent cook, and enjoyed preparing home-style food for family and friends. Through the Wichita County Extension Service, she shared her love of cooking and other homemaking skills, serving in many volunteer roles in her Home Extension Club for years.
She and Gene loved to travel and had taken their RV to every state except Hawaii, as well as to Canada and Mexico. They went on many of Skip McBride’s foreign trips and vacationed in Australia and many countries in Europe. Darlene especially enjoyed her last cruise with her son and daughter-in-law to New England to see the fall foliage and was planning an upcoming trip with her daughter.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, her brother Robert Earl Waters and her sister Norma Jean Manning.
Survivors are her children, Norman Terrel and wife Cathy of Granbury, TX and Linda Allen and husband Kevin of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Cliff Terrel and wife Amanda, Charlotte Patterson and husband Emory, Rachel Allen and fiancée Dan Shedd and Emily Allen; six great grandchildren; and YoYo, her faithful companion for the past 7 years.
