Darrell was born August 6, 1968 to Raymond L Smith Jr and Wenona Darlene (Davis) Smith in Amarillo, TX. Darrell lived most of his life in Texas after his father was based at Sheppard Air Force Base in 1972.
From an early age Darrell was raised around farm animals from cows, steers and horses. He was a long time Ag member, was on the soils judging team and showed heifers. He was a member of the Rodeo team, loved the Rodeo and breaking horses. He graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1986, but his heart was always at Rider, where he attended most of high school.
Darrell was a big fan of the Cowboys; if the game was on he’d be watching them no matter where he was. He liked swap meets, old cars and racing.
After graduating, he was injured and spent a lot of time gardening, with family and doing things on the farm.
His favorite hobby was scratch offs and going to the Casino with his dad. At home his biggest joy was racing the mailman to the mailbox in his wheelchair every day.
Darrell was loved by so many and brought laughter and joy to a lot of people. He didn’t know a stranger, and enjoyed meeting new people and striking up conversations with someone new everywhere he went.
He is preceded in Death by his mother Darlene Smith, brother Raymond L Smith III, niece Ashlie M Wright and both paternal and maternal grandparents.
He is survived by his father Raymond L Smith Jr, Brother Gerald (Jerry) Smith and girlfriend Janyce Merkel, Sisters Darla Smith and Wendy Vann and husband Lonnie Vann. He had numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
