

Fay Lorraine Ivy Underwood passed away peacefully on June 24, 2023. She was born on July 24th, 1941 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Olien and Annelle Ivy. Olien and Annelle sooned moved their family to Vernon, Texas, where Fay was involved in many school and church activities. She graduated from Vernon High School where she excelled in Art and Drama. She attended Hardin Simmons University where she earned a Bachelors degree in English and then later a Masters degree in Library Science.
She married her soulmate and best friend Calvin Underwood on April 12, 1963. They lived in Wichita Falls where they raised two daughters, Sarah and Amy. She went on to have her dream job as a Librarian at McNiel Jr. High School, where she worked for 30 years. She painted a mural in the media center at McNiel, that was unfortunately destroyed by the tornado. Upon her retirement, the library was named the "Fay Underwood Media Center" in her honor.
Fay loved her family, especially her grandkids, they brought her so much joy. She loved having parties, playing games and watching game shows, but most of all she loved the Lord and her church Lamar Baptist. She was a long time member of Lamar and served by working in the library for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Barbara Hailey and her brother Don Ivy.
She is survived by her husband Calvin, sister Ruth Thomas, daughters Sarah Haskins and husband Rick, Amy Neal and husband Kevin, grandkids Shelby Antunez and husband Anthony, Carly Farris and husband Collin, Samantha Thomas and husband Steffen, Kevin Neal Jr. and Caleb Haskins, great grandkids Stevie and Jonie Antunez and Benjamin Thomas and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss her laughter and smile, she made life fun.
