

Garland C. Shelton of Wichita Falls, TX passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the age of 96. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, Pastor Chad Stubblefield officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Garden of Devotion of Crestview Memorial Park with Masonic rites rendered by Faith Lodge #1158 A.F. & A.M. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 12, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Garland was born on February 24, 1919 in Angelina County to John and Leola Shelton. He is a US Army Veteran, serving in World War II and his professional career was with the US Postal Service, where he retired as Postmaster in Decatur, TX. Garland enjoyed golfing; reading; having vegetable gardens; traveling; watching all sports; being knowledgeable on national current affairs; and attending graduations and sports events of his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Clint Shelton, Faye Brown, and Nina Binion. Garland is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Shelton; son, Kenny Shelton and wife, Kandy, of Alvord TX; daughter, Kathy Long of Moore, Oklahoma; stepson, Larry Holloway and wife, Gayla, of Archer City, TX; two stepdaughters, Leslie Garlington and husband, Bobby, of Wichita Falls, and Linda Holloway of Denver, CO; 12 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Matt Shelton, Scott Chancellor, Larry Holloway, Jr, Jason Holloway, Brad Garlington, and Aaron Hall.
