Georgia Baxter (age 76) our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend departed this life for her heavenly home on April 29, 2023 surrounded by family. Georgia was born August 21, 1946 on the family farm south of Bradley, OK, the second daughter of William (Bill) McCellan Nye and Viola Marie (Durant) Nye.
Georgia married Frankie Leon Scoggins on October 16, 1970 and were blessed with two children, a son, Frankie Len born August 31, 1971 and a daughter, Tiffany Marie, born June 1, 1974. Georgia was preceded in death by Leon on June 15, 1987.
On July 2, 1988, Georgia married Billy Joe (Bill) Baxter. Georgia was preceded in death by Bill on April 24, 2020.
Along with her seven classmates, Georgia graduated from Bradley High School in 1964. After graduation, she began working for Roger (Bill) and Mary Frances Williams as bookkeeper for Williams Food Store and Bill’s Restaurant. She cherished this time in her life and career, considering Bill a mentor and the six years with them as a solid education from what she coined the Williams School of Business. After starting her family and raising her children, she served as Office Manager for several physicians in the Lindsay area and at the Lindsay Municipal Hospital during both the late eighties and again between 1993 and 2001.
In a note that Georgia wrote in July of 2020, she shared that “happiness comes from within your own heart; from the people in our lives, the relationships we cherish, and the experiences we share, not the things we have. The happiest days for me are the days my children and grandchildren are with me.” Georgia loved big and was fiercely protective of her family and friends. Throughout her life she found joy in activities focused on family and faith, serving as a volunteer leader for both the Garvin and Grady County 4-H Clubs, the American Legion Auxiliary, Women’s Mission Union, and in countless capacities for each of her church families. Georgia was an expert seamstress, receiving the State of Oklahoma Golden Thimble Award in 1970 and a talented quilter, completing quilts for each of her five grandchildren. At the time of her death, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Byers, TX.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Len Scoggins of Mustang, OK and Tiffany (Sean) Macklin of Byers, TX; grandchildren: Ryanne (William) Pinnix of Petrolia, TX, Peyton (April) Macklin of Wichita Falls, TX, Emilee (Tanner) Macklin of Petrolia, TX, Carson H. Macklin of Byers, TX and Hayden Len Macklin of Byers, TX; her sister: Thresa (Mike) Schmitz of Lahoma, OK; sister-in-law: Leschen Nye of Lindsay, OK and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
