Gloria Ramirez Buchan

Gloria Ramirez Buchan, 76, of Wichita Falls passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at her residence. A Funeral Mass will be recited at 10:30 AM Friday, August 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father John D. Pacheco, celebrant. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 Thursday evening at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. A Vigil will be held beginning at 7:00.

Mrs. Buchan was born on June 21, 1935 in Del Rio, Texas to the late Adolfo and Maria Ramirez. She married John M. Buchan on August 18, 1956 in Del Rio.

Gloria was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and sister and was an active community volunteer. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Gloria received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education (B.S.O.E.) from Wayland Baptist University and also graduated from Draughon’s Business College in San Antonio, Tx. as well as Vernon Regional Junior College. She also attended Midwestern State University. Gloria retired as a Master Instructor with Civil Service in 1994. She was active in the Capri Club, Reach for Recovery, Partners in Education and was a volunteer teacher’s aide and received the J. C. Penney Golden Rule Award. Gloria was awarded Wichita Falls’ 2006 Hispanic Citizen of the Year. She also was a member of the Guadalupanas and volunteered for the Ft. Worth Diocese in Marriage Encounters.

Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, John Buchan; children Mary E. Buchan Alfert of Burkburnett and John M. Buchan, Jr. of Ft. Worth; sister, Alicia Elliott of Wichita Falls; brother, Leon Ramirez of Del Rio; grandchildren, Carl, Michelle and Gloria Alfert; great-grandchildren, Johnny and Rosalie Alfert. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Victor and Adolfo Ramirez.

Gloria was a dear, sweet person who touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.
