

Harris was born March 16, 1937 in Northwood, North Dakota to Harry Hobert Torgerson and Esther (Brager) Torgerson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Darrell.
Harris married Vernie Gail Butler on November 14, 1959 in Calhou, Louisiana. He grew up in Finley, North Dakota, a farming community. Summer months, after school and Saturdays were spent working for the area farmers. After graduation from high school and after harvest time in 1955, he enlisted in the US Navy. He retired after serving 20 years in the Navy in the rank as a Chief Petty Officer. While on duty with the US Navy, he served aboard 5 ships and 5 naval stations, and as a Navy recruiter in Grand Forks, North Dakota and a Tour of duty in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He spent Christmas on the Antartic Circle and was Ashore in over 27 countries. He retired from the Navy in July 1975 from Inshore Undersea Warfare Group 2 in Norfork, VA. He and his family came to Wichita Falls where he worked at PPG Industries and retired after 17 years.
Harris is survived by his wife, Vernie; daughter Phyllis Torgerson; 2 sons, David of Wichita Falls, TX and Rodney of Iowa Park, TX; grandson, Erik Torgerson of Dillon, Montana; brothers, Richard and wife Betty of Ocala, Florida and Ronald and wife Cher of Albertville, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 1 PM Tuesday March 8, 2022 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls, TX. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Monday March 7, 2022 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home.
