A proud native of her beloved San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Maria Reyes followed the love of her life to Texas in 1977 where together they would make their home and raise their children for the next 45 years. In early February 2022, the loving husband she had followed so long ago, was called home by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, the María Reyes’ immigrant story was not yet complete and later that same year, in November 2022, she became a United States citizen. Maria knew the enormity of her decision and did not take it lightly; she knew she would always have love for her native Mexico but she could not turn away from her appreciation and gratitude for this great country where she she was able to raise 8 children and 22 grandchildren; Lauren Tayler, Lexi Shaye, Diego Antonio, Melanie Ayde, Gabriel Alexander, Lorelei Elyse, Ryan Gustavo, Abigail Elizabeth, Jake Evan, Marlene, Juliet Aerie, Daniel Esteban, Angeles, Isabella, Liani Grace, Eva Marie, Leonardo Manuel, Luca Miguel, Ximena Sujei, Eli Santiago, Isaias Miguel, and Eliseo Joaquin.
Maria Reyes’ life is the exemplary example of the immigrant story; her family touts many self-made business owners, teachers, an attorney, a future nurse and the best are yet to come. Her legacy is in tact and will surely continue to make America great.
