Maria de la Luz Jaramillo has entered Eternal Rest and fortified by the rites of Holy Mother Catholic Church. Her passing was peaceful at home. Maria was extremely devoted to her Catholic faith and heavily involved in the Church.
Her story is one of listening to God's will, which led her down an unexpected but blessed path. She entered religious life at a young age and traveled abroad to Spain and Portugal. In the late 1970s, she was assigned to Dolores Catholic Church in Austin, TX. God, in His Infinite Wisdom, had a different and beautiful plan for her. At Dolores her path crossed Guillermo Jaramillo, who was leading the church choir. After much discernment she decided to leave religious life to become a mother to Guillermo’s children.
They married in 1981 and moved to Wichita Falls, TX with four of their children while the two older remained in Austin. She continued her strong devotion to the Catholic faith by meditating on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary and instilling these values and beliefs in her children. Alongside Guillermo, they led the choir at their home parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, for over 2 decades. She and Guillermo enjoyed performing as Mariachi artists at El Mejicano Restaurant and private events. Her pass time included playing board games, dominoes, and Chinese checkers with her kids and grandkids.
