Mary was born in June 9, 1918, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, the second child of Harold and Hilda Grist Hassell. She was raised on a sheep ranch Warriup in Western Australia. She attended school in Kataning, Western Australia where she taught after graduation. She joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1942. She met her husband, Walter (Tex)Palmer while he was stationed there during World War II. They married on April 17, 1943 in Perth, Western Australia and she left Australia in 1944 to come to Texas. She spent her married life following her military husband around the world, raising their two children and finally settling in Wichita Falls in 1961. They moved to Lake Kickapoo for 25 years and back to Wichita Falls in 1993. She started painting in water colors when she was 8 years old and loved teaching others to paint also. She was recognized as a Lift Up Artist for the Kemp Center and sold her paintings all over the world.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Walter (Tex) Palmer; a brother: Roy Hassell; and a sister: Ethel White. Survivors include her daughter: Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Moser and husband Sam, son William (Bill)Palmer; grandchildren: Terry Murphy and husband Jay, Rick Moser and wife Shelly, Marissa Inness and husband Skippy, and Jill Palmer; 7 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren: and her siblings: Betty Long of Albany, Western Australia, Barbara Roberts of Adelaide, South Australia, William (Bill) Hassell of Albany, Western Australia and many loving nieces and nephews.
Instead of flowers a donation to either The Kemp Center for The Arts or Hospice would be appreciated by her family.
