Survived by – his wife of 61 years, Donna Jean Edmondson Young, his son Scott Gregory Young and wife Jamie Young, two grandchildren, Zoe Young and Zane Young, his brother David Young and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Preceded in death by – his parents, Sam & Betty Young and his son Steven Jeffrey Young.
Steve enjoyed a long career as a traveling salesman, first with Morton Foods and later with Dealer Products. Steve had a special way of turning his customers into friends everywhere he went.
Steve and Donna were introduced by Ronnie and Carol Webb in 1961 and were married the following year in November. They laughed together and loved each other for the next 61 years. Over those 60+ years, they traveled all over the United States, racing and sightseeing and having a grand time wherever they went.
Steve started racing sports cars in his late teens and then switched to dirt track racing. He competed in everything from stock cars to super modifieds and USAC Midgets. When he hung up his helmet, he immediately began helping his sons with their racing careers. He LOVED being at the racetrack and around his racing friends. In his later years, he would mentor young racers every chance he had.
Steve equally loved history of all genres, but especially that of the local Indian tribes and early settlers. He spent countless hours visiting old Forts, cemeteries and battle sites in the surrounding areas. Over the years, Steve accumulated an impressive collection of arrowheads, fossils and artifacts and loved telling the stories behind each one. As much as he enjoyed the hunt, he enjoyed being outdoors.
Steve was the best Poppa to his grandchildren. His active imagination was allowed to run wild with Zoe and Zane, acting out skits and role playing for hours on end. Steve truly lived in the moment and helped others to do so, as well. A wonderful example of a Godly man, husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A visitation for Steven will be held Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX 76302. A funeral service will occur Monday, October 28, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home.
