Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, July 12, 2010 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Strickland of Texoma Cowboy Church officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Ray was born Dec. 25, 1941 in Alvord, Texas to Zollie Elmo Cage and Myrtle Washburn Cage. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School and then Midwestern (State) University before beginning his career as a machinist at Wilson Manufacturing. He retired from the Midwestern State University Maintenance Department in 2004.
With an ever-present smile and comedic disposition, Ray kept friends, family and audiences entertained through his activities as a professional magician and as a singer in barbershop quartets. He attained the distinction of Order of Willard in the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Ray was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a Director of North Texas Men's Chorus (Red River Ramblers), and sang with Variations Quartet and the Quarter Notes Quartet. His comedy talents came into play for several years as the character of Chester Drawers at the Wichita Theatre in Wichita Falls and Royal Theatre in Archer City.
Ray was a devoted husband, father and Christian. He was a member of Texoma Cowboy Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Zollie Elmo Cage, Jr., and sister Faye Cage. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary; daughter Jamie Rice and husband Jason; two grandchildren, Bailey (11) and Kannon (7); and sister Lavada Marie Schultz and husband Bob of Largo, Florida.
